Urban Planning

Melvin Villarroel reflects and emphasizes which components profoundly affect architecture. They are not only the natural components but also the social, cultural and historical ones. The natural components are studied through a series of precedents taken from the site itself, and then the documents and plans are prepared in the office, that permit to classify the potential of a site. One has to consider all the natural components of the place, such as the amounts of sunlight, the topography of the land, the air, the vegetation and the water.

Urban Planning

considering all of its natural features: the amount of sunlight, water, vegetation, air, and the slope or form of the topography. We shall classify these as the "basic conditioning factors".

The feasibility of the project is analysed, after a visit to the site, the experience of an initial "visual contact", an aerial photography of the surface of the land accurately shows the landmarks and measurements that also need to be considered such as vegetation, wildlife, construction areas, road networks etc.

Urban Planning

The next step is the analysis of all the information gathered on and about the site, including the above mentioned sketches and site photography. In addition, the documentation and analysis of wind patterns, available sunlight, and the consideration of appropriate preventive measures against natural phenomena are all undertaken.

Second, the land is classified according to its solar orientation, which is a significant factor, and it is classified as well according to its slope.

Finally, an illustrative rendering of the land, addressing the supply and flow of surface water produced. Once the program requirements are tested against the available land, we identify the natural vacío as the generator of the constructed vacío, then the different areas of the general plan are defined.
